How serious are you?

Posted in Business planning by Steve Sammartino on August 6th, 2006

You know that Mac Daddy idea you come up with about once a month while sipping coffee with friends? I think we have one. A colleague and I have come up with a concept which we believe to be unique, on a global scale. In fact, the idea we believed to be so good we have spent the best part of 12 months working on it.

Strong enough was our belief we have worked 4 nights a week and weekends on it. A gauge of how serious you are can be represented by how much of your spare time you are prepared to forgo to make your dream a reality. I’ll let you decide, but here is what we have done. I would finish work in my full time ‘paid’ gig, then start my real work. The work that brought out a level of desire and passion I haven’t felt since leaving University. This would consist of me meeting my partner in crime and working most nights beyond midnight. Generously, we gave our selves Friday night off.  It didn’t stop – for 12 months

Surprisingly, the more we worked the better the plans came together. The kibosh never came. Cool. So we kept going, working until we had robust plans, for a great business. Time to chase it….

How serious are we?  We left our jobs, walked away from $150k per annum. Traded income for passion. The ability to feel we are not wasting the 86,400 seconds in each day. I already feel richer for the decision.
