Share the process

Here’s a really nice piece of brand engagement by South West airlines. Watch it, then we’ll chat some more.

This is such a simple idea, not just for Airline & time lapse photography nerds, but pretty much anyone. An entertaining audience connection. It brings the audience into the organization, a little bit of industrial tourism, which pretty much any company can do if they stretch their imaginations a little bit.

I think this could work showing chocolate bars being made, rock bands setting up, graphic design work, furniture being carved, clothes being stitched..l almost anything. And the awesome thing is that it’s very cheap to do these days. iMac movie comes with a speed up footage feature, and very good time lapse software apps can be bought for the iphone for a few dollars. It’s a good way to create a conversation, fill the blog, or even tweet about.

Startup blog says: Share the process, not just the results.

    Hey Steve,

great idea but requires a little bit more thinking outside the box for timelapse vids to work in certain industries. Eg. IT – hard to make software development entertaining…but not impossible!

    Love the challenge Mate!

Actually Aj, I reckon you could do it for IT as well…. imagine this:

      - Time lapse whiteboard of ideas and pictures and pages being generated
      - Time lapse Drawing up of wireframes
      - …. designs being drawn on screen
      - …. some coding to look cool like the matrix
      - …. and some people using the website

      All with some groovy music.

I reckon this fast forward view of what it takes to create some digital output would really show people how much goes into it getting it done and live. Increase the perceived value into what you are creating.

      Steve.

Update, this has had over 300,000 views from start to finish. More than 300,000 people who engaged with the brand voluntarily, not because they were interrupted during an American Idol episode.
